Grandpa Tom

This is a picture of Josh's grandpa (on his mom's side)... Grandpa Tom.
We were told today that he passed away last night. He had been battling Alzheimer's Disease for a few years now. Of course, it is always hard to know what to say about the death of a loved one. It is sad to know that he is not with us anymore - yet, there is peace in knowing that he is no longer suffering.
We haven't seen Grandpa Tom in a couple years. The picture above was taken two Christmas' ago. That is Anna on his lap and he was trying to teach her how to write in his daily planner.
There are sooo many good memories that we have of him. He was the type of guy that always had the biggest smile across his face. He liked to wink and whistle to get your attention. He loved listening to Alan Jackson. He was very caring and gentle, and could make just about anyone smile. It would be hard for anyone to say they felt left out when he was around.
He got a kick out of me when I wore my jump boots with my wedding dress... he yelled out after Josh and I walked out of the church, "Hey Heidi, what's that on your feet???" and if I remember correctly after I showed everyone my boots he said, "Hot dog! I like that!" and gave a thumbs up...
He (and Josh's other Granpa "Pop") pinned Josh's 2nd Lt. rank on him at his commissioning ceremony. Josh was so proud to have his Grandfather's take part in that day. I remember when he was pinning Josh's rank on his hand slipped and he dropped the rank, he didn't hesitate to pipe up, "hey, I'm an old guy, give me a break..."
.... He boogied to a couple songs with Josh and I at Amber's wedding... at the Christmas mentioned above, he and I had a blast laughing and joking while we peeled a ton of potatoes - he had an eye for any little brown spot and made sure I got them all!!

Grandpa Tom,
We love you! You will be missed very much...
Thank you for always having a warm smile to share with anyone and everyone.
Your friendliness and faithfulness is unsurpassable.
My only wish would've been that our children would've had the chance to know you more - but they will be told many many stories about you...
Your struggles are over, enjoy your time with Jesus, and give us a wink every now and then.
Love Always,
Josh, Heidi, Anna, and Forest

I send my condolences...I can't believe it brought me to tears to read about him. Losses are always hard but pray and be strong for your family and count everyday as a gift.
