O.k. -- so we have survived the trip from Washington to Louisiana (via Montana, Minnesota, and Tennessee.) Over all we have spent 13 days traveling and slept/crashed at 1,2,3,4,5,6,SEVEN different places - and we're not done!!Currently we are in the guest housing at Ft. Polk and could get into a house on post in anywhere from two weeks to four months. Renting off post is very limited. Buying is not quite the way we want to go right now. I did find out today that we might be able to get into "temporary housing" - which is a small somewhat furnished apt. that would be on Ft. Polk. We just need to talk to the reservation people here at guest housing. I talked to the receptionist this evening and she mentioned that her family stayed in the temporary housing for about 8 weeks. So, we're hoping it will be promising for the time being. We know that God will take care of us and "it'll all work out." I think we're just happy to be off the road for a while.
Josh's parents live about three hours from here in Shreveport. Allelujiah! We were able to let Forest and Anna stay with "Grannie Annie" for a couple days so we could come down and get organized.
The kids were troopers while traveling. Of course there were a couple mishaps, the worst being Anna got attacked by fire ants at our first stop in Arkansas!! Welcome to the South!! They don't do very good napping in their carseats, maybe an hour at best. But, I must say that they remained fairly content for the trip. I had lots of snacks to keep them happy, we read books, practiced flash cars, and of course, watched movies! P.S. for any of you military mom's getting ready to take a long trip - I found that straws made the best toy, Forest chewed on them, Anna directed music - they loved them and they were free! However, I am ready to get them settled in with their familiar things again.
I will try and post some photos soon. We got to see lots of family and friends on our way here and I would love to share some of those pictures.
Until then I think it's time to catch up on some much lost sleep!
Take care,
Heidi
