Muffuletta...

So, while I was at swimming lesson's this morning I heard from a friend that a NEW RESTURAUNT opened in Leesville today. For this town that is BIG, no, SUPER BIG NEWS... and I couldn't resist to check it out.
The name is "the Little Easy's Muffuletta" - or something to that effect. In all honesty, I had no idea what a MUFFULETTA was and even now still need to research exactly what one is... even though I ate one. By the way, it was delicioso!
Of course, being an "out of towner" and a northern girl by nature I tend to not know how to say things the right way in the culture in which I am currently living. For example - I called the sandwich: muff-ull-etta ; just like it, to me, would be called.
NO! Of course not, it is pronounced more like: muff-oo-lot-ah. I know... crazy, but trust me, it's important to know these things and to be aware of these things, which at the time I clearly wasn't...
And let me tell you, it's even more important to maintain a sense of humor about your own awkwardness from time to time. I was reading on a sign what a MUFFULETTA is made of and read: (oh, and now I can't remember everything on there) Salami, Mozzerella Cheese, Maynz, Olive Salad, - and if you're like me, you may have paused right there and thought (out loud of course) ... "Maynz? what's Maynz?" So... I asked.

"Ma'am... what is Maines..."
The lady at the register, the man at the table next to me, and the lady standing in front of me in line, all in harmony reply, "Mayonnaise." I could do nothing at all but laugh! - "Oooh! gotcha..."

All-in-all, the muffuletta was very good. So good that I think I should go back tomorrow to remind my taste buds exactly how good ;) it really tasted. I guess that the Rueben is to Minnesota what the Muffuletta is to Louisiana, sort of thing. Yummy, Yummy, Yummy!

My hubby, who was born in raised near the Big Easy, and who by the way was sitting at the table as the whole above incident unfolded, shared with me that these sandwiches are very popular in New Orleans and you would've thought he was a kid in a candy store when he realized that they were served with a bag of Louisiana's very own Zapps potato chips!
~ Once again, we are reminded that it's the simple things in life that keep us happy ;)
