No, I don't mean one of THOSE DAYS!... the ones where you want to stop in the middle of everything; the screaming kids, messes, whining, and arguments, just to head straight into reverse, putting everything away, walking backwards into bed so you can cover your head with your pillows in hopes that it will all just stop!

Yeah, I don't mean like that at all. Days like that happen to me on a regular basis. Nothing special to mention about them. La teee dah!

What I do mean though is... Have you ever had one of THOSE DAYS?
The ones where everything is in perfect harmony and this overwhelming euphoric super mommy sense takes over? You know what I'm talking about. A day when your kids are not perfect, but pretty close. A day when you get a lot accomplished and feel a sense of achievement with your daily to-do list. A day where you manage to eat three healthy meals and your family enjoys them too. A day when you might have "extra time." Can you imagine? EXTRA TIME! Ah... THOSE DAYS are the absolute best!
I had a day like that. And it was just this past week.
It all started with the sound of my sweet baby boy moaning at about 5am. The perfect thing about it though, was that it was coming from the room across the hall, and not from the pack and play shoved against the wall in my bedroom. BLISS! I got a full nights sleep!
After nursing him and dozing back in and out of sleep I decided to sneak downstairs for coffee at around 7am. And yes... I (I mean, we) got this for Christmas so coffee is now even more fun to make!
From that moment on the day began to unfold so beautifully.
I registered to become a Doula (that's another post in itself.) And ordered some books to get started on my journey.
We ate breakfast. The older kiddos played nicely all morning. Then as I went upstairs to get them dressed I started my chore of cleaning their bathroom.
Anna said she wanted to help.
Wait. Help.
Wait. Help to clean the bathroom?
OK!
Then Forest wanted to help too.
Double OK!
And they did an amazing job - One cleaned the sink, while the other cleaned the toilet and then they switched jobs. Anna even scrubbed out the tub. (OK, this might not be amazing to some parents out there who have already trained, bribed, begged, forced, encouraged, or taught their children to clean things. But for me, this was thrilling!)
After we had a squeaky clean bathroom. We headed downstairs where I managed to chalk out a few basic words for Anna to practice reading. She's picking it up, but is soooo stubborn sometimes. Or lazy. Which ever. She'd rather me read everything to her. But for some reason today she was IN.TO.IT! So I was excited about that.
Then lunch. Some of the usual - vacuuming, dishes, folding... THOSE DAYS type of stuff.
But... there was "EXTRA TIME!"
So.... we headed outside for a walk. It was extremely windy out in the open on the side walks so we took it in a bit and walked along a wood line behind the houses in our neighborhood.... which to me could count as a nature walk. We each found perfect walking sticks, looked at trees, talked about deer, snakes, and bears! So much fun! It was one of those moments that I really wish I had my camera on me, but was happy that I didn't because there were no distractions.
Guess what... we had more, "EXTRA TIME" ... so we decided to make cookies. Nothing super crazy. Just a basic cookie recipe. But oh, so much fun to see the excitement in their eyes.
You may remember me sharing that we don't have cable TV. Forest was rather excited to watch the cookies bake.
Isn't Art in the eye of the beholder?
I think so.

I'm pretty jealous right now. It seems the ONLY way I can get anything done in my house is if I let Elayna have some Sesame Street time. PLEASE share your secret!
awesome extra time
