Creative...

Yeah... just two plain old milk cartons that were on their way to the blue recycling bin. (And by the way... I love the Promised Land brand of milk. It's not organic, but tastes just as good and I think it close to like a dollar cheaper. It is all natural and I like the philosophy behind the Promised Land Company. The only bummer part is that it's not sold at the commissary so I can only get it when I go to that other dreadful store here... not mentioning any names.) So anyway, the milk cartons were on their way out...
But then a thought came into my "keep things organized and the kitchen clean" mind - Ah ha! I remembered something that was shared in a workshop I attended about - 101 Things To Do with Your Kids on a Rainy Day - The lady that lead the workshop had said that she used to give her kids 2L bottles and would tell them to go walking through the neighborhood and see how many... rocks, sticks, or whatever... they could fill into the jug. TA-DAH!!! And let me tell you I totally could understand the logic in just "giving" your bored to death children "something" to do.
So I had a mission, because, of course, I couldn't just let them use the milk cartons with out making them look pretty, or like something more than just plain milk cartons... I mean, I get bored too and that would've been way too easy, right?
So here is my little creation...

O.K. - here comes my "I'm not a Martha Stewart" disclaimer... I'm more of a what's fast, convenient, and cheap type... so no pretty handwriting in calligraphy... my sharpie did just fine.
And besides, the kiddos loved it. Well, at least for the first five minutes of it...
It was kinda hard to find "cool" stuff to stick inside. All we have in our front yard is huge pine cones, pine needles, and sticks. Not many rocks. But they were good at playing along just enough for me to take some pictures.
Today is a new day and we decided to head up and down the street and find our rocks. And here is what has been yielded so far...

What a great idea! I'll have to use that with Nathan next year!

What a great idea. That would have really helped when I was down there with the kids last fall and we tried to carry all the rocks, sticks and pinecones in our pockets! Great idea from a great MOM! Love ya Granny Annie
