Way before Josh got home, I had "googled" lots of potential romantic getaway spots in the PNW. I narrowed it down to two possible places...a) Oregon or b) Canada...
Have you ever been in the middle of making some sort of decision and light bulbs start flashing on left and right??? Well, that is what happened when I stumbled upon McMenamin's . Maybe this type of retreat isn't up everyone's alley, but all signs pointed to Josh-n-Heidi.
For starters - Josh is a lover of history; McMenamin's takes historical buildings and restores them into resorts. They don't just restore these buildings, they re-create them into nostolgic places of artwork and creative memories. Everything in just about every room relates to the history of the building. Nothing seems to be overlooked or forgotten. They even have self guided walking tours - so it's perfectly safe to snoop!
Secondly - I am a nurse and I currently work in a nursing home... (some might think this is weird) ... the Grand Lodge where we stayed, was a nursing home for old timey Masons.
Thirdly - Josh and I both love good American music (country, classic rock, bluegrass, big band - you name it...) and I happened to notice that Lynyrd Skynyrd was playing at one of the resorts.
So, it was either sip tea in Canada - or the above???
Here are some pictures of our room. How cool is it that we stayed in a room dedicated to the first Registered Nurse to work at The Lodge...
It may not look like much, probably because it really wasn't... but life is not always about "the more the merrier."
I had to add this picture...
Can you say "HIPPIE HAVEN!" This isn't a city park this was outside - at the Yardhouse - the outdoor pub. This guy stayed sleeping on that picnic table for well over 90 mins. I guess he was comfortable - and better yet, no one else seemed to even bat an eyelash. Where else can you eat a fabulous meal in an amazingly relaxing atmosphere - and to top it off - not just get your desert "to go", but actually rush off from your table with your warm caramel toffee brownies, ice cream, and beer in hand so you can catch the movie that is starting!!
...oh... and I can't get away with not mentioning the soaking pool.
