So the second day we headed out we drove along the Columbia River Gorge. We made our way to Hood River and took a train ride through the country side to a VERY SMALL rural town called Odell....
I had to take a picture of the gas sign! The pumps had the old rolling number system. I'm not sure which is more scarey... that the gas pumps were that old, no swiping your debit cards, OR that gas is so expensive that this particular pump can't keep up???
Hood River, OR, was a pretty cool place to visit. The train ride was relaxing. We had a great lunch at one of the historical hotels, and found some cool toys for Anna and Forest at G. Willikers Toy Store. A little bit of everything could be found - food, winery, parasailing (didn't have time to go for it), antique shops, local artwork...
Next thing we knew we were headed BACK DOWN the Columbia River Gorge - to head to the concert.
But we made a few stops along the way...
#1 - Bonneville Dam. O.K., it's pretty much just a big Dam, but it was cool to look around. They even had a way to go "under water" and see fish. Some poor soul actually has a job of sitting behind a glass wall counting the fish so they can keep record of fish populations. Luckily, we were able learn about these groovy guys - "Lampreys." They are sorta like a super huge leach/eel... either way, I'm like..."I don't think I want to swim in rivers anymore..."
#2 - Horsetail Falls. We even hiked up about 1/2 mile to see the upper level of the waterfall. Oops, I thought I had pictures of Horsetail Falls uploaded onto my computer, but guess not... anyway, it was beautiful and looked similar to our next stop...
#3 - Multnomah Falls. Need I say more...
Well, actually there is more to be said... See, now we're in a dilema because Multnomah Falls is the SECOND highest waterfall in the US. So, now we must see THE HIGHEST waterfall - which I guess is somewhere on Mt. Rainier....
